Campgrounds North Carolina Wake Forest

Falls Lake State Recreation Area/Campground, Wake Forest, NC

October 1, 2016

Falls Lake State Recreational Area campground is a wooded, quiet and peaceful place. We were only here for one night but it was a great first stop on our journey to Weslaco, Texas. It is a very hilly spot and heavily wooded but doable even for first timers! There is a nice beach front on the the lake for swimming and there is fishing available, however we did not have time to take advantage of this aspect. There are several areas to this recreational facility, and it seems that at least at the time we stayed, there is no one at the guard shack that led into the Holly Point area, where we stayed until 4:30 p.m. We did use the main address for the park which led us to an information center where we checked in and were given directions to the actual camp area that we inhabited for a night.

Restrooms: As per the usual state park facilities were adequate, nothing to write home about but functional for the needs. They did have a paved path to the facility and plenty of lighting which is a plus, especially since the area is heavily wooded.

Campsites: loved the campsite, even though it was a bit tricky to get into with the turn and hill but once in we had plenty of room and they are not on top of one another which is nice! They have different types of camping spots, ours had electric and water, no sewage but they do have a dump station and this was not a problem since we were there for only one night. They offer anywhere from tent camping up to RV sites, and they also offer double sites.

Facilities: They have of course the usual showers and restrooms. There are trash cans every couple of sites as well as scattered recycle cans throughout this part of the park. There are life vests available at the beach as well as picnic tables with grills for use.

Overall this was a great place to visit and hope we can come back to again for a longer time.

No sunsets or sunrises to report.

Things we learned: Make sure you read the website information before arriving at your campground. There was a paragraph telling us where to go, instead of going to the main building, However I think it worked out better for us this time!

More to come and travel on!
